Urban Island Theatre Group was conceived in the fall of 2002 with our debut production of Alone At The Beach. In addition to producing and performing, Urban Island is a medium in which we sponsor charitable events. During the run of Alone At The Beach, we dedicated two nights to benefit performances. It is extremely fulfilling to be able to utilize the theatre as a means to give back to society. I truly believe that the creation of theatre brings communities together. It gives people a place to safely air grievances, tell stories and grow as human beings. As we watch someone else's story on stage, perhaps we learn something about ourselves or our friends that can help us live a more enriched life. Theatre is received through the sense and can ultimately transform us. Can you imagine what the world would be if we did not have access to the great plays that pepper our history? How much have we learned from watching a new idea put on stage? Stop and think for a moment about what play made a personal impact on you and then how it changed your perspective on a particular subject. How did it change the way you see someone or some other culture? Did it make you a more compassionate person? Perhaps it brought you back to an event in your past that caused you to call an old friend the next day or mend a relationship. Or maybe it just put a smile on your face so that you slept well that night. But the theatre provides a place for people to grow, learn and develop together as a community. Going to the theatre is a voyage that can bring you to a place you never imagined. I hope you will support our effort and join us on the exciting journey.
